As long as I can remember, I have looked forward to the time of year when we sing Christmas songs. Even before the decorations came out of storage we would turn on holiday music. Then we would sing a few lines and start decorating. This would continue for about 6 weeks until we put it all away. These songs still resonate with me today and always will. They bring back memories and remind me of the joys of Christ's birth and all the promises it fulfills.
A couple of years ago I remember hearing someone ask why we didn't have music for Easter. I honestly had never thought about it, but it makes sense. Why don't we use the time leading up to Easter as an opportunity to repetitively sing songs that remind us of resurrection hope? I have heard some say that we should be singing songs about the cross and resurrection all year. I agree with that statement, however we should be singing songs about the birth of Christ all year too (maybe that should be another post) but we seem to set aside the month of December to focus our hearts on that truth. So why couldn't we use the month leading up to Resurrection Sunday to focus our hearts on the resurrection hope?
In an effort to encourage this I have created a playlist on Spotify, Youtube, and a song list to help you begin a collection of Resurrection themed songs.
I would love for you to leave further suggestions in the comments below.
You can use the Spotify playlist to the left to listen while on this page. However, Spotify also allows you to download the free app for your computer, phone (iPhone or Google Play), or tablet (iPad or Google Play). To download, click the links above for the appropriate device. Then click the link below for the Easter Playlist once you have downloaded it.
